WILDLIFE HABITAT AND TJAPUKAI

Cairns was our evening destination after leaving Daintree, but we decided to make a stop at Port Douglas to visit the Wildlife Habitat, an 8 acre facility displaying Australian wildlife.  They also run a rehabilitation center for sick or injured wildlife.  Although these places generally makes for poor photography, it does offer looks at wildlife you might not be able to see easily.

Just south of Port Douglas, but before you get to Cairns is Tjapukai, an Aboriginal cultural park, which celebrates the history and customs of the original inhabitants of Australia.  Their history goes back 40,000 years and claims to be the oldest living culture in the world.  The great thing about the park is that it is interactive.  You can learn about the plants and medicines they used, try ancient crafts like weaving, boomerang painting, and didgeridoo construction.  For the hunter, spear and boomerang throwing would be in order.

The audience in back of these two should be alert

I would starve if I had to use a throw stick for my meals!
