OLD CAR CITY USA
Just north of Atlanta in a 34 acre wooded area lies the self-proclaimed largest classic car junkyard in the world. Old Car City USA began as a general store in 1931, morphed into a successful junk yard, and now, with over 4200 american cars built before 1973 on the premises, is considered by some to be an art museum of nature and machinery. There is an ongoing battle between car and mother nature. Each year nature gains ground in the battle. Plants grow on, in, and through the cars. Ultimately nature will win and only photographs will document what once was.
This junkyard..... I mean art museum.... is very popular with photographers. I talked to a couple of photographers who were waiting outside for the "curator" to let us in. They had flown in from out of state and were planning on spending several days here. Apparently this is not unusual. I only had a morning to spend and I know I barely scratched the surface. The office/showroom has a number of exhibits but it is the outside that is the real attraction.
