KINGFISHER PARK BIRDWATCHER'S LODGE

Kingfisher Park Birdwatcher's Lodge has been a mecca for natural history lovers for many years.  It changed hands earlier this year but with 220 species of birds, expert guides, and many friendly like-minded individuals it will continue as a great attraction for bird photographers.  As I backed the van into my spot, Andrew, the owner, said there was a water drip directly behind me that attracted many birds. This was my first opportunity of the trip to work a "set".  I could simply set up an easy chair, grab a beverage, make sure my backgrounds would work and wait for the birds to come in.  And come in they did, giving me almost constant action.  I could have stayed there for a week.

This "set up" doesn't look like much but proved very productive
Northern Fantail

Spectacled Monarch

Red-browed Finch

Bar-shouldered Dove

White-throated Honeyeater

Yellow-faced Honeyeater

The only problem was a very bold and persistent Australian Brush-turkey that staked out the area and became very annoying as a camera hog.
Australian Brush-turkey.  A face only a mother could love.

In the mornings the flowering bushes along the road produced other species.

Dusky Honeyeater

Grey-headed Robin

Orange-footed Scrubfowl

Despite having the name "lodge" in their name, campers are welcome.  As is common in many Australian campsites there is a camp kitchen for all to use.

If camp food is not to your liking the Highlander Restaurant and Bar is a few minutes down the road.

Bird watching doesn't get more enjoyable than this!
